Falls Free® Wisconsin (FFWI)
You can take steps to reduce your falls risk. That’s what drives us at Falls Free Wisconsin (FFWI) – a statewide initiative committed to reducing older adult falls. Falls have serious consequences for older people, their families and caregivers; communities, and systems. FFWI takes a public health approach to falls prevention addressing the multiple factors that can cause a fall, raising awareness and providing information and resources to encourage older people, their families and caregivers to eliminate falls hazards, and encouraging state and local efforts to reduce falls risk. Ultimately, FFWI aims to reduce injuries, 911 calls and ambulance rides, emergency department visit and hospitalizations, and deaths.
FFWI is guided by the Falls Free Wisconsin Coalition and our community partners throughout Wisconsin. A multi-disciplinary group, FFWI is made up of representatives from aging services (such as Aging & Disability Resource Centers and Aging Offices), health care, public safety, public health departments, non-profit organizations, senior centers and others. The coalition is focused on raising awareness, curating and sharing best practices in falls prevention, gathering and reporting falls data, and addressing policy and systems changes.
Wisconsin Institute for Healthy Aging (WIHA)
WIHA is a one-stop shop for evidence-based health promotion programs and practices, such as the falls prevention programs Stepping On and Pisando Fuerte, that can bring the power of self-care to adults throughout our state and nation. WIHA oversees the Falls Free Wisconsin Coalition, this website, and the included resources.
FFWI is supported by the Administration for Community Living (ACL), U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) as part of a financial assistance award totaling $523,000 with 100 percent of funding from ACL/HHS.
